Underground

Population growth and land development have transformed our right of ways in congested underground utility corridors. Accurate information of existing subsurface utilities is critical to any project, it is essential to develop strategies to reduce risk, or at minimum to allocate risk and to make informed decisions in planning the new infrastructure.

We recommend our clients to reach out to SSOCOFF when dealing with utilities within easements and public right of way, and to follow Sunshine 811 safe digging better practices. On behalf of our clients we assist with requesting Locate Tickets through 811, and monitoring agency responses.

Our approach to SUE and Underground Utility Location is analytical and comprehensive. We evaluate As Builts Records, aboveground evidence of utilities, and utility maps. We locate buried facilities using complementing technologies such as ground penetrating radar (GPR), electromagnetic induction, scanning, etc. For more precise location we perform non-destructive vacuum excavation (softdigs). Once exposed we evaluate the pipe conditions, measure elevations, determine size, material, and directions. Our deliverables include utility maps, conflicting utility logs, and dealing with various utility agencies for conflict resolutions. We have staff trained in FDOT Advanced MOT/TTC, capable of preparing MOT Plans and pulling MOT Permits when required.

Our Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) designation and location services are provided in strict compliance with the American Society of Civil Engineering ASCE Consensus Standard (ASCE C-I 38-02 “Standard Guidelines for the Collection and Depiction of Existing Subsurface Utility Data”) and supervised by a registered PLS/PSM.
