Floodplain Management, Flood Risk Analysis, FEMA Applications

Floodplain Management reduces the risk of flooding in our communities and enhance public safety, while building resiliency and adaptability. Floodplain Management is an essential discipline related to the enforcement of sea-level rise ordinances, risk assessment, storm surge protection effectiveness, and flood mitigation strategies. Floodplain Management Services complement and add value to our land surveying capabilities and services.

We provide FEMA Flood Risk Map analysis, compare newly published with historical maps, plot new Flood Hazard Zone boundaries, interpret Flood Insurance Studies (FIS) for precise Base Flood Elevation (BFE) determinations, evaluate Flood Criteria Maps, assist in preparing Floodplain Permits, and navigate thru FEMA to “grandfather” the elevation of the existing buildings, when built pre-FIRM. We provide professional consulting services to municipalities to ensure compliance with FEMA Community Rating System (CRS) guidelines. We prepare FEMA Elevation Certificates for Flood Insurance, construction certifications, final permits and Certificates of Occupancy.

Based on the existing elevations and the nature of the floodplain we determine if existing structures and or parcels of land are candidates for FEMA Flood Map Amendments and Flood Map Revisions. We assist our clients in filing these administrative processes with FEMA so the structures can be exempted from Special Flood Hazard Zones and minimum flood insurance requirements can be waived.
